“The Animal Gaze” explores the image of the animal as a constructed encounter between presence and projection, a far cry from the traditional documentary portrait. The series is conceived as an artistic approach to the animal realm, shaped by perception, distance and cultural imagination. Each image positions the animal simultaneously as both subject and construct, questioning the claim to objective representation as well as the feelings and ideas through which we perceive animals.
